In celebration of Writers Boot Camp’s 35th anniversary in October 2024, new Professional Members joining by November 8th (starting Nov. 18th or in January) will have access to more than 35 special Mini-Camps on wide-ranging creative topics by founder Jeffrey Gordon (JG) in recent years and during the pandemic. A Mini-Camp, offered once or twice monthly, is a refresher for past alumni as an ongoing, free benefit of the 18-month Pro Membership and afterwards for one’s career.
Mini-Camps occasionally cover seasonal and current industry issues such as breaking down Oscar-winning and nominated scripts or our customary annual Creative Calendar review, or genre-focused topics and subjects about diversity and emerging career opportunities. We distinguish between Mini-Camps and Industry Interviews in that Mini-Camps tend to highlight proprietary Writers Boot Camp concepts, tools and exercises with JG speaking/teaching while interviews and panels are moderated by JG, mostly providing a platform for successful Writers Boot Camp alumni and industry colleagues to help inspire fellow alumni. We often invite Basic Training alumni and welcome friends and colleagues to these events as a manner of scouting new writers.
Tangible and Intangible Benefits as a Professional Member
Few artists achieve more without a regimen of support and discipline. We provide much more than an external deadline for completion of work. The unique tools of Pro Membership–as many as 150 exercises, techniques and strategies–expand beyond Basic Training’s core fundamentals to empower many stages of work to prepare a professional foundation, along with an exceptional emphasis on REWRITING, which is how most professional writers earn the bulk of their compensation.
For perspective, even TV show runners spend extensive time rewriting–rewriting their staff writers to match their scripts to their voice and that of their show. By developing the foundation of a set of writing samples in just 18 months, a writer’s trajectory is established to continue preparation to “attract” representation, profoundly accelerating one’s career progress.
In addition to creative support through Project Group meetings within a modest-sized roster of fellow writers and filmmakers every other week, along with an additional Pro Member Workbook, there are many tangible and intangible membership benefits. In addition to free script evaluation–we don’t believe in writers paying for coverage–one of the intangible opportunities for learning and integration is the immersion and osmosis of monthly Mini-Camps. (Ultimately, industry speakers tend to affirm that the primary power of a writer is their focus on their writing work itself.) In most cases, affordable payment plans can be customized for $250-$350 per month–and many writers will be eligible to reduce their payments through optional Work Study.
You can read more about Professional Membership here.
To name just a few, here are the titles of more than 35 Mini-Camps to choose from that will be made accessible to new and current Pro Members by the holiday season. Please inquire about Pro Member eligibility, payment plan options, and other initiatives by November 8th, 2024 by emailing support@writersbootcamp.com.
