African American Perspectives Fellowship: Apply by Monday, February 28th

Honoring Black History Month, we’re offering our third African American Perspectives Fellowship since the start of the pandemic. Three full $2500 scholarships will be awarded for the 12-Week Basic Training that starts Monday, March 7th. Candidates must be self-identified as Black or African American and the application must be completed and received by Monday, February 28th, 2022 at noon, LA time.

Writers Boot Camp has a remarkable diversity track record and more than 30 years experience in support of the individual voices of writers and artists. Even as our educational process occurs within a group of writers, evaluation methods emphasize learning-by-analogy and are designed to empower one’s own creative authority. Basic Training is more than basic; experienced writers will intuitively understand the benefit of the tools while new writers will gain a comprehensive foundation for their future. While a jam-packed and accelerated process to take your Movie or TV Pilot from idea through a first draft and two rewrites, the only prerequisite is 10 hours per week for creative exercises and writing time. You may also create the foundation of your book or novel in the same 12-week process.

You don’t have to know anyone at the company, in the entertainment business or an alumnus of Writers Boot Camp to apply or to be eligible to win, though historically writers with more professional experience will stand out by the distinctions articulated within the application and in reply to the creative and topical questions. The short window of the application period is due to the trend of most writers submitting within the last 48 hours anyway. We encourage you to submit your application early. Share with us an extraordinary experience that you attribute to your heritage. What is your view of progress against police violence and racial injustice since the #BlackLivesMatter movement? Is there a historical event, story or subject regarding race that you would like to see approached differently or updated in some way?

If you win a Writers Boot Camp scholarship, please state the title and format of the project you will write, and share the premise in a single sentence only. A Premise Line is more than a typical logline and may include up to 50 words, focusing more on the middle of the story and what characters actually do along the 2nd-Act Adventure. If your project is for television, then the A-Story of the first episode will be more relevant than a general series description.
