Writers Boot Camp Founder, Jeffrey Gordon (JG), during a 2024 Alumni Speaker Event, spoke with Osgood Perkins, who was a Writers Boot Camp Professional Member in (YEAR) and went on to be a writer, director, and Filmmaker. Osgood’s credits include THE Monkey and LONGLEGS.
Osgood discussed his journey as a writer and his early opportunities—
“It’s no exaggeration to say that Writers Boot Camp was everything that I needed at the time that I needed it. I continue to use it with every project and if I didn’t have it I’d still be mired in the kind of philosophical approach to things which, of session, is bullshit. The practical approach is all that matters.”
JG inquired about how his experience in Writers Boot Camp’s environment informed his time on sets—
OP: “I inherited this belief that as the director, everybody on the set is entitled to an idea. If you see something, say something. If you’ve got a better idea than me, please give it to me.”
Further discussing the set experience, JG asked what many aspiring writers and filmmakers want to know: “What advice do you suggest to those looking to be in the position to be on sets?”
OP: “I’ve interviewed cinematographers, production designers, makeup people, actors, very few people say, ‘I really want this job.’ And I don’t fucking understand why so few people say it. It’s such an elemental thing to say. Don’t be cool. Don’t be better than it. Say, ‘I really want this job.’”
Writers Boot Camp alumni have nearly 1000 success stories. They have won Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes—even the Tony. Our alumni have a few hundred movie and TV credits, and hundreds of books and novels published.
